Heskey ruled out for six weeks | 18/09/2007
Wigan and England striker Emile Heskey was injured in the 9th minute of Wigan’s weekend fixture against Fulham.
Scans have confirmed Heskey has a broken metatarsal and will definitely miss England’s two qualifiers against Russia and Estonia. Wigan Chairman, Dave Wheelan, spoke out confirming this.
"It is not serious but it is still six weeks”, said Dave Whelan.
"It is such bad luck - bad for Wigan, bad for England", added Whelan.
"I think he will definitely miss the first England game."
"It is bad luck, we are all aware of that. We were shocked on Saturday. He just jumped up in the air and came down on his ankle."
Heskey had only recently been brought back into the international limelight after injuries to first choice players gave him his chance. Playing alongside Owen, Heskey looked very impressive and felt he had done enough to cement a position. However this injury has cast doubt over his availability for crucial mid October qualifiers and it will now be upto Steve McClaren to think again regarding his attacking plans.
